Yes, this feeder is massive. Yes, this feeder is double sided. Yes, this feeder can hold 15 pounds of seed. That’s right, 15 pounds. But that’s not the only appealing thing about this feeder. It is manufactured in the USA and…
Made completely out of weather resistant steel.
It also has:
- Large overhang protect birds feeding
- Locking lids keep seed safe and dry
- Squirrel buster lever seals off seed compartment
With the powder coating to the exposed surfaces, this feeder can withstand rain, snow and blistering heat of the sun year in and year out
and…
still look great.
Because of its solid construction, it also means the seeds are kept out of the weather as well. This means they are always fresh tasting and dry. There will never be a time when the seed is wet and rotten with this feeder. Your cardinal family will return day after day to feed.
It is also squirrel proof by way of two different mechanisms to keep those persistent squirrels away from your cardinal’s seed. The first anti-squirrel device is on the top of the feeder. There are two locks, one for either side, locking out squirrels. The second mechanism is the lever at the bottom. Once a squirrel steps on it, the animal’s own weight closes off access to the seed.

Our Verdict: Woodlink Absolute II Squirrel Proof Birdfeeder
To me, this feeder was a no brainer. I loved that it came already assembled
and…
was made in the U.S.A.
The all metal construction looked great and came weather proofed so it won’t rust even with the harsh winters we have here. The massive capacity meant I wouldn’t have to fill it very frequently at all. I mean, it held 15 pounds of seed!
When it said it was squirrel proof I immediately became suspicious. I’d been taken before by feeders who claimed the same thing but I wasn’t disappointed.
This feeder uses locking mechanisms for the feed containment area so the squirrels can’t get to it but that is just one anti-squirrel tool. The second tool is a weight adjusted lever that activates when the weight of a squirrel steps on it. Once that happens it closes off the food portal and the squirrel is out of luck.
Some notable features:
- Massive capacity
- All-metal construction
- Weather proof
- Squirrel proof
There is no waste with this feeder. Between the locking mechanism keeping those seed poachers at bay and the sturdy construction, no seed will be spilled or lost to dampness and rot.
I can fit my entire hand inside this feeder to clean it easily and quickly.
With the large overhang, it shields cardinals as they perch and feed at this bird feeder.

Our Analysis, Comparisons & Test Results
While some people might say this feeder isn’t the prettiest of the bunch, I do like the style of it. It almost reminds me of an old colonial home with multiple feed level windows and feeding ports across the front of it.
What sets it apart?
- Massive 15-pound capacity
- Made in the U.S.A.
- Squirrel Proof
- Rust Proof
It’s made of American steel and is sturdy to a fault. The Woodlink Absolute II Squirrel Proof Hopper Feeder is a brute. This thing is made to last.
With a special coating…
this feeder is rust-proof and will look great year after year despite harsh weather conditions.
Regardless of rain, snow, or extreme heat, this feeder will keep the seed dry and fresh year round. Your cardinal friends will be thrilled to have seed all year long, feeding under the big overhang which also shields the seed from wet weather too.
I loved the weight adjustable lever across the bottom. You can set it for large, medium, or small-statured birds to get the birds you’d like feeding at your feeder. This also means squirrels will get nothing out of this feeder. As soon as their weight pushes down on the lever, the seed access is denied. Between that and the locking mechanisms on the roof, this thing is squirrel proof. Squirrels are out of luck.
Design and Aesthetic Appeal
I realize that this lacks some of the aesthetics of other feeders I have reviewed but I still liked it and think it looks good in my backyard. Now is it going to win any beauty contests? No, not likely. But this design is incredible for a variety of reasons. It’s made entirely of powder coated metal meaning it is rust-proof. It also means no matter how many times squirrels chew on it they won’t be able to damage it. This feeder will stay looking good in your backyard.
Important features:
- Rust proof
- Pre-assembled
- Powder coated all-weather metal construction
- Dual-sided 15 pound capacity feeder
It is a single piece and comes pre-assembled, so there is no frustration on your part trying to get the feeder ready to be placed in the backyard. However, if mounting on a pole, there is a significant amount of installation time and effort required.
With its all-metal construction, it will last season after season for your bird watching enjoyment. It has two locking mechanisms for the dual-sided feed storage containers. This means the feed is safe from squirrels. It also has a squirrel busting lever along the bottom edge where the seed comes out.
When a squirrel’s weight is detected…
it closes off access to the feed.
Because the lids are so large, it is easy to fit your hands inside to clean. It also means when it is time to refill it there is no problem. Refilling is easy too.

Storage Capacity
This feeder has an incredible 15-pound capacity.
Are you kidding me?
That is one of the biggest capacities I’ve ever seen in a feeder. I was very impressed. I mean who wouldn’t be. Some of the feeders I’ve reviewed have only been able to hold a quarter of a cup of seed. Not this one. This one can store a ton.
Even with dozens of birds feeding from this feeder every day you will not be spending all of your time refilling it again and again.
Instead,
you can spend your time watching the birds coming and going. All the beautiful red cardinals coming in to feed.
The locking lids for each of the feed containers means…
There will be no waste and no feeding seed encroachers. This is important to me because while I have no ill will toward squirrels, I don’t want them taking food from my cardinal friends.
With the locking mechanism, it isn’t hard to keep the seed inside the feeder and maintain the capacity of the feeder.
There are so many feeders I’ve bought in the past that I had to refill every single day. If I was refilling this every single day I’d think there had to be some mutant birds out there.
How the Woodlink Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder stacks up in the storage capacity ratings:
Ease of Cleaning
This bird feeder is one of the easiest to clean out of all the feeders I reviewed. This is in part to the design and in part due to its size. What makes this particular feeder so easy to clean, is the easy-to-use locking mechanism on both feed compartment lids. There is no trick to opening them and they are not hard at all to operate, which I love. The easier the better for me.
Once I unlocked the lids and opened the compartments, I was absolutely delighted to find that I could fit both hands inside the feeder for a good and thorough cleaning. I was also excited to learn that there was no need for any special cleaners. I could use any household soap and warm water to clean it. This feeder is so easy to clean and takes so little time, my cardinals hardly had any time to miss it while I was getting it ready.
I know I love it if I don’t have to have ten different cleaners in my house in order to keep everything clean. After cleaning it, simply refill and lock the lids again and you’re ready to go.
How the Woodlink Absolute II Bird Feeder stacks up in the ease of cleaning ratings:
Ease of Refilling
Another big selling point is how easy the feeder is to refill. Think about it. If you have to struggle to open some complicated locking mechanism to refill it, you’ll grow to hate it. You’ll likely stop refilling it and the cardinals will find another feeder somewhere else to feed from. Also, if you’re refilling it every day, you’ll eventually grow tired of that too. You want to enjoy watching your birds, not refilling bird seed every fifteen minutes. You’re in luck with this feeder.
You see…
this feeder allows for mess-free and stress-free refilling.
There are two different seed containers in this dual-sided feeder which allows you to mix and match different seed types for your cardinal family.
Both containers have…
locking lids,
which ensure no seed loss to squirrels and other pesky critters looking for a quick meal.
Once the lids are unlocked and opened, it is easy to pour seed right into the containment sections. Simply close the containers and lock them and that’s it. Because of the 15-pound seed capacity of this feeder, you will not have to refill this feeder frequently at all. Your time can be spent watching the cardinals feed rather than refilling the feeder every other day.

Ease of Assembly
Raise your hand if you don’t like to spend hours upon hours putting together bird feeders. Yeah, me neither. I’ve done it before though and I wasn’t happy about it. You loved the way it looked and thought it would look amazing in your backyard only to find out it’s made out of twenty-five different parts and it’s going to take forever to put together. Frustrating, right?
Selling points:
- No tools required
- Nothing to assemble
- Solid one-piece construction
For me, one of the biggest selling points of any feeder is how hard it is to put together. It takes the joy out of owning it. I don’t like to waste hours trying to put it together. I want to spend my time watching my birds feeding.
When this box arrived and I saw no assembly required I was thrilled. Those are some of my favorite letters on my bird feeders.
However,
I was disappointed when I realized how difficult the installation would be, especially since I was installing it on a pole. I had to dig a pole to install the pole in order to finish the assembly. Ugh!
When I opened the box and pulled the feeder out, I loved its sturdy construction. It is solid metal construction and it was already assembled. All I had to do was open the box and fill it with seed and pick a location to hang it. I couldn’t have been more pleased with this feeder.

Woodlink Absolute II Squirrel Proof Birdfeeder FAQs
Is This Squirrel Proof?
While this feeder is touted as being squirrel proof it doesn’t come with any guarantee to that effect. I will say it is highly squirrel resistant. The roof sections both lock and latch so squirrels can’t open it to get to the seed. It also has a squirrel buster lever across the bottom. When a squirrel’s weight is on it the feed access is cut off and closed.
Does this Metal Rust?
This is a brute of a feeder. It is all-metal construction and has a powder finish to it so it is rustproof. I’ve had mine for three years and it still looks brand new.
Is This Feeder Hard to Fill?
Not at all. The double-sided roof has two latches to keep squirrels and other critters out. Just unlatch the sections and it opens right up. Bring a big bag of seed though. It can hold 15 pounds!
Our Final Verdict: Woodlink Absolute II Squirrel Proof Birdfeeder
Feeders come in various styles offering different features for all kinds of birdwatching experiences. This one has one of the largest capacities I’ve ever seen in a bird feeder. I was so impressed with the way this feeder is built too. All weather-proofed metal, it comes completely assembled which I also appreciated. That is a huge plus for me.
Holding up to fifteen pounds of seed, this will not have to be refilled very often. The nice thing is I found it was easy to clean and easy to refill. The roof is held down with two separate locking mechanisms which are easy to manipulate. Once unlocked, the doors easily open and expose the feed storage area. The massive size of the feeder lends itself to easy refilling. There is more than enough room to fit your hands completely inside too so cleaning it is easy. Just use warm water and soap and you’re done.
Anyone looking for a feeder that will easily last for years and has a huge capacity for feed, this is the feeder for you. I highly recommended it not only for its construction but because it is squirrel proof. You will be feeding birds and not squirrels with this feeder.
